The casualties of COVID-19 and shitty and unaccountable government leadership

The ides of March came roaring after two straight months of escalating crime statistics…and then it suddenly stagnated and all stats dropped very dramatically.

Because COVID-19 came to town.

It was spreading vociferously across the globe and creeping steadily across this nation in a matter of weeks after tens of thousands got infected and thousands die at the city of Wuhan in the Hunain Province of China. Following a man who mysteriously caught the virus in February who worked in Midtown and commuted every day from and back to New Rochelle, leading to that town getting quarantined by Governor Cuomo.

Then people started dying in Washington where it was first found in America, then a rapid rise of cases leading to hundreds of deaths in Northern Italy. This was enough to influence every selfish citizen to resort to panic buying and hoarding in bulk hand sanitizer, bleach, masks and toilet paper. Everyone was running around pretty much in fear despite the rosy complacent statements made by President Trump even while he instituted travel bans.

After various statements and announcements understating the potential reach of COVID-19; the government of China, the World Health Organization and Trump’s Centers for Disease Control started ramping up serious warnings as cases started to rise, most predominantly in New York City. In the face of the global pandemic these harrowing and foreboding developments and signs of society at the genesis of it’s upheaval, the city’s response and defense had to be thoroughly robust and required maximum effort and collaboration from all officials appointed and elected.

Instead your city got Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Yes, Bill de Blasio. Mayor Big Slow de Blasio really lived up to his fucking nickname I gave him by not treating the slow creep of COVID-19 with the severity it truly warranted. With a complacency that mimicked the near lysergic daily denials of President Donald Trump’s handling of the spreading disease that has bankrupted the nation.

When a woman became the first COVID-19 case in Mayor Big Slow’s jurisdiction in Manhattan, suddenly the man who was derelict all summer from his job while running for president last year decided to take the reins and take absolute control in the battle against the invisible enemy. Taking his bizarre response when Ebola hit NYC in his first year in office when a hipster doctor who contracted it decided to go to bunch of cool places in areas of the Two Bridges of Brooklyn and Manhattan when Bill decided to retrace it in an act of bravery in the face of a contagion, Bill decided repeat this act of haughty defiance with a novel virus by (in his own mind) inspiring his constituents to do the same and go to restaurants, bars and see some movie he recommended as talks about an entire state lockdown was being discussed.

Then the dumbass Mayor continued his version of “leadership'” by keeping the schools open, even after concerned parents and even faculty demanded that he shut them down. While blowing off their concerns he was still in contemplation of letting the St. Patrick’s Day Parade go on. When the day came when COVID-19 took over the planet on March 15 2020, Governor Cuomo finally stepped in and closed all schools himself in addition to declaring the entire state of New York shutdown at the end of the week.

Although even with the state order of most businesses to close down especially in ones where the virus can spread the easiest like restaurants, bars, movie theaters and workout gyms; de Blasio in utter defiance of this state of emergency still went to the Park Slope Y to conduct city busi….I mean “work out” one last time at the cost of taxpayers collective money and the sanity of his staffers and the cops assigned to protect him.

Then his insistence on still holding the reins for the COVID-19 response along with his megalomania was driving his Department of Health gonzo. He then continued his pattern of misinformation. Responding surely to palpable frustration of his staffers and the health commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot, the mayor decided to take his ego-driven micro-mismanagement stylings to a 311 call center and gave horrendously wrong information to a caller and to prop up his fucking wife’s Thrive program and integrate it with the COVID-19 emergency services. And as expected with an agency that wasted 850 million dollars run by an even bigger megalomaniac and indicative of his barely recent 311, all their advice to callers were wrong.

Following these two weeks of the Mayor’s chaos making in addition his petty feud with his Cuomo, cases accelerated to 10,000 in a matter of weeks as the few local hospitals were getting jammed, none more devastating than the epicenter of the pandemic at Elmhurst Hospital. of residents line up for coronavirus testing outside of NYC ...

COVID-19 laid seige over the city in New York Minute. Thousands of city service workers were suddenly calling sick and getting infected. Doctors and nurses were not invulnerable mainly because of the widely reported lack of PPE supplies.

Meanwhile, crime went down a dramatic 20% after horrifying gains in major crimes in the months of January and February and it took a contagion to do it even as thousands of cops called in sick.

Then hundreds of people were dying every day as the load was too much for medical staff at hospitals across the five boroughs that bodies were literally being hauled on forklifts like piles of meat. Nursing homes resorted to ugly measures to handle the dying piling up and funeral homes couldn’t handle the onslaught of corpses.

But as COVID-19 cases getting hospitalized and casualties kept mounting up; the Mayor, while still micro-mismanaging the response and begging the stingy President Trump to send more PPE’s and ventilators to gravely under-supplied hospitals, under-supplied his constituents of data of where the majority of the COVID-19 positive cases were located. The first one the city put up for weeks had no zip codes and then has the cases and deaths mounted, they put up a comparably more descriptive map with the zip codes after it was reported that Newark, New Jersey had a more detailed COVID-19 case map that included them.

This showed that while his constituents were sick and dying, de Blasio and his staffers were more busy machinating results and keeping crucial information about where the most afflicted were located from the public, while giving them an interpretation of transparency while obfuscating the true data. This control measure was laid bear when a photographer had his drone confiscated by deBlasio’s NYPD after he flied it over Hart’s Island as mass graves of COVID-19 casualties were being buried. All of this was just a continuation of secrecy maintenance being executed to keep the schools open by not disclosing if any faculty contracted the virus as de Blasio, Carranza and his cronies and minions made sure they kept the cases hidden from concerned parents and from educators. This criminal insouciance became lethal when a beloved principal from a Brownsville public school succumbed to the disease and died a week after the schools closed. She was only 36 years old.

It didn’t take long when it was revealed that the biggest hot zones came from neighborhoods where the majority are Black and Hispanic. Plus they were working poor people and had further commutes from the city and they were all now considered essential workers and frontline workers.

Apparently and obviously, if these workers from the north and east parts of the Bronx and South and East and Southeast Brooklyn and Queens knew how heavily contagious their areas were, they probably would have took the proper precautions or understandably be discouraged to come to work. But the essential populace has to come in and make the city run no matter what. Even if they can’t barely afford to live in the city. The economic inequities of the past 20 years made established by the powerful of NYC has ingrained a catch-22 lifestyle for it’s residents most vulnerable to poverty and now a novel virus.

As of this writing, over 20,000 people have died of coronavirus in the five boroughs. The most deaths in a city in the nation and on the planet. Sure, Donald Trump is mostly responsible because he kept exhibiting abject denial of the contagion capabilities for months, but all the evidence was in and de Blasio, being feigning to be a progressive himself is supposed to believe in the science of things in addition to being a vociferous critic of the president. But like his GOP rival, de Blasio was as much in abject denial as he was and is a megalomaniac like him. Maybe even more.

Because this may have been the moment when the city was doomed to be taken over by COVID-19, the biggest, deadliest terrorist cell on the planet. At a press briefing regarding coronavirus and in mere few seconds, de Blasio grabbed the mic from a man and declared that the pathogen’s shelf life on most surfaces was only for about 3 minutes even though it was common knowledge for weeks (even by Governor Cuomo) that it can hang on most common surfaces for about 3 days

de Blasio’s proclivity to big foot people was on full display. And despite being called on this by a reporter from Gothamist right there, he kept standing by this ignorant turd of a theory just like Trump kept comparing COVID-19 the common flu for a month.

And the Blaz kept expounding on his idiot theorem for the rest of the week as he bottomed out by saying the virus can’t handle staying on a city surface for long compared to upstate or anywhere else. In Bill’s hollow skull, the coronavirus can tolerate remaining on a door handle in say Buffalo but it can’t handle settling on a Grand Central subway station hand rail for more than 140 seconds.

As with most tragedies that lay permanent damage to society, COVID-19’s chickens came home to roost in the form of reports that exemplified de Blasio’s idiotic interpretation of leadership in the city’s unpreparedness. Most glaringly in the superior response and defense made by the city of San Francisco’s Mayor London Breed, who wasted no time and scheduled a lockdown and the oft-quoted shelter-in-place law that shut most non-essential businesses down on the day of the week when the Blaz was balthering his 3 minute rule for coronavirus. The result saved thousands of more lives and resulted in hilarious juxtaposing of tweets the mayors made on the same day of their most publicized responses.

Truly a tale of two leaders. One who actually took the outbreak and essentially her job seriously and one who was encouraging people to keep mingling and go out on the town, even telling potential vectors to take in a movie 3 days later.

One who responded proactively and one who prioritized leisure over precaution.

Total number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in San Francisco? 1,891 and 33.

Total number of cases and deaths in Mayor Big Slow de Blasio’s and your city of New York? 184,417 and 20,056 and counting. The Blaz’s lethal complacency made mortality rates 6000 times worse.

Now that it has been reported that tens of thousands of people traversing NYC were carrying the virus as early as January and February and that unaware vectors carried it while traveling from NYC, it’s very likely that de Blasio’ twitter movie recommendation might have accelerated the outbreak to the rest of America. Because who else would de Blaz try to inspire to go to restaurants, bars and shows and movies as residents were buying and hoarding all the Purell and toilet paper? Tourists, in the hopes that they will spend as much money before the city was about to lock down.

Mayor de Blasio has spent the last 2 months trying to make up for his fuckups by continuing to cosplay himself as a leader in the fight against COVID-19. And he’s doing this by trying to throw the burden of flattening the curve mostly on his constituents to report any social distancing violations (which led to hilarious results and mocking reports of his own public appearances) or potential street encampments by the homeless population who refuse to go to dangerous and over crowded shelters. He also blabbed about throwing a parade for doctors and nurses while they were still running short on PPE supplies, ventilators and beds for the thousands of COVID-19 patients coming.

The Blaz has kept up his micro-mismanaging as tests are still hard to get for the majority of citizens mostly from the hardest hit hot zone areas, even as he ignores their demands for them.

Most damning of all, if that’s even possible with all the dead and ailing, de Blasio found time to continue his recidivist pay to play city services with his donors. This time with tech gadget wholesaler who donated to his re-election and farcical presidential campaign PAC’s to acquire PPE’s and medical devices for hospitals and adult care facilities and Contractor Gadget still came up short delivering them. de Blasio doesn’t know shit about preparing for a crisis and evidently leading a city during one, but his brain cells get energized the second an opportunity comes up to make sure anyone who gave him money immediately gets a cherry contract with the city.

Bill has also taken to hold a daily live streaming “media availability” to update his constituents and the press regarding case and death updates and all other things COVID much in the vein and in mimicry of Governor Cuomo’s now nationally renowned daily press briefings in vain effort at transparency and accountability to make up for their initial gross negligence at the start of the outbreak. But what these two mooks have done from the start of this plague was basically orchestrate a parody of government preparedness.

Meanwhile, back on the streets of New York; crime in the month of March went down a dramatic 20% after horrifying gains in major crimes in the months of January and February, the only exception is a rise in bias crimes against Asian people who are being targeted by xenophobes blaming them for spreading COVID-19. Although vehicular speeding went up because of ample room on the streets from the public sheltering in place. Burglaries shot up because all of the non-essential small business stores are closed. (sans national chain stores). But that is only a small respite since 20% of the NYPD are calling in sick or already infected.

But robberies are starting to creep back up again and it can be attributed to the mask protocols every citizen has to follow, which makes it easier to evade identification from the victims and the cops.  More crime is taking place in the subway, as homeless habitation as increased tenfold which led the MTA to cut four hours of service for thorough cleaning. Car theft has also on the rise. Murders are also going up because the streets are more deserted and unnervingly quiet. All this can be attributed to a depleted police force that’s either sick or are being deployed to make sure no one is less than 6 ft. apart from each other (easy solution and evasion, just take two steps back when 5-O shows) and also of thousands let out of prison to prevent the spread of contagion among the prisoners and the C.O.’s..

With COVID-19 still holding the city under siege, along with the economy in purgatory who knows what the near future and state of society of New York will hold for it’s residents if the money runs out for them and also the state and city’s coffers run by two moronic megalomaniacs heavily busy covering their asses while remodeling themselves as leaders and protectors.

The aspiring cop assassin went up to two cops on the street and talked shit to their faces the night before he shot at the police van and he served time for carjacking and shot a person and then wrecked two cars and engaed in a shootout with the NYPD who were in pursuit of him in 2002. He showed no remorse during his arraignment and boasted that he will try to kill more cops when he gets out of jail. The recidivist criminal waltzed out of the courthouse boasting of his undeserved freedom and proclaiming that the poorly written new laws were “lit” and about his ill-gotten earnings which he topped off with yelling a racial slur and how unstoppable he is. A few days later he got caught by the cops at a homeless shelter for his 140th career arrest after he ripped off a woman by selling her an empty metrocard for $32 at the 42nd St. Station.

According to the charges, two fourteen-old-boys committed the murder as one held her while the other boy stabbed her after she defended herself while preventing them from stealing her cellphone. She bit her killer on his finger. So my theory that it was an adult male that did it was wrong.

The killer’s stepfather may have sentenced him early by admonishing the boy at the precinct by yelling that he wasn’t poor or struggling because of the expensive sneakers he wore and how he should have went to school and stayed away from kids with bad influences.

So the killer wasn’t a grown ass man, but a couple of ignorant kids.

083Embrace it’s warm, benevolent and invasive money usurping glow

It’s been a wild year so far for the worst fucking transit system in the universe. The MTA had to deal with two straight Monday of signal and switch breakdowns on two consecutive Mondays in January. The “sudden” resignation of Andy Byford. A fleet of  new cars breaking down that serviced two four borough train lines and another three borough one. The return of graffiti artists bombing entire trains as well as rise of felony crime on them and at the stations including a continuing rash of suicides. A massive (but ill-advised) social justice protest demanding abolishing the fare and the hiring and deployment of 500 cops to patrol the subway for farebeating, resulting in scattershot vandalism. A transit strike barely averted at the last minute. And to top it off, Andy Byford’s farewell exiting the MTA at 2 Broadway in Downtown Manhattan to a waiting and adoring crowd cheering him out, probably the first and definitely the last time you will see or hear about a sendoff of a government appointee like that.

Even though those subjects demand a thorough (de)constructive analysis peppered with vitriol and profanities, I prefer to focus on and review what I believe is the most costly, picayune and offensive thing the MTA is putting a big part of their efforts on now and that’s the induced implementation of the OMNY cashless tap fare system and the piss poor promotion of it.

Let’s start right off the bat with this fucking sight,

The MTA decided to splash these OMNY posters on all the ad space on the cars, which has been a common sight in the past decade as they have done on stations and even on the exterior of the cars too.

Now what immediately comes to mind is the color choice of this, making it entirely black. When Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap remarked about the band’s manager album art decision about it being “none more black“, with this the MTA’s marketing contractors 38 years later said “hold my beer”. It’s also easy to see that they chose to go with black to prevent counterpoint Sharpie marker graffiti (although they have overlooked scratchitti and even label stickers)

But what really stands out is the messaging. It’s very authoritative as much as it is misinformed, more propaganda than helpful PSA. Because while you can use your phone now to pay, the metrocard is still the preferred method of paying the fare and will still be available to commuters until it’s terminated in 2013. That’s 3 years, which is still a long time from now.

But the ads continue to seduce and also order the customer/commuter into using the new and preferred method for entering the turnstiles.

Probably sensing the utter lack of emotion and bleakness conveyed in those two ads, the MTA’s OMNY optics team made certain to get cheeky and cute with the rest of them. Even though they unwittingly encourage anti-social behavior and enable the continuing mental illness pandemic of cellphone addiction and the lousy culture of viral trending.

By chance you don’t get a seat, you get to view the overhead ads which seem inspired by Egyptian heiroglyphics featuring the evolution of the payment object and method.

Although instructive, there is still a palpable sense of subliminal and needy needling in influencing the commuter to change their payment routine.

These are just the taxpayer funded ads trying to goad commuters into allegiance to OMNY pay. One of the too-big-to-fail banks, whom obviously have a big stake in the tapping fare game, are splashing related ads on stations all over the city. While more brighter and friendlier, it still is pushing the same messaging with equal desperation even if the promotion is contributing essential funding to the subway.

What’s problematic about all this expenditure to influence people into embracing what these ads proclaim about OMNY’s simple and easy system is a majority of commuters are not buying it and are still easily swiping to get on the train.

The MTA and Chase underestimated commuters since the majority of NYC citizens are creatures of habit. But trust might also play a factor too, especially since some of these scanners usurped money from commuters phones as they walked through the turnstiles already paying their fare the (majority used) current way. But maybe the MTA was not being that honest about their data before they went out and spent millions installing these OMNY scanners all over Manhattan and stations in affluent areas in Queens and Brooklyn (and maybe in some stations in the rapid luxury development areas in the Bronx). Another thing they didn’t factor is that a lot of people still don’t like to be told what to do, especially through subliminal and insidious tactics no matter how helpful they appear.

But it seems that with all those factors, the MTA still spent a significant amount of time getting this fare system and advertising campaign implemented. Although it’s early, the efforts of Cuomo’s MTA with Jamie Dimon’s Chase and other big banks pushing OMNY have clearly failed; naturally because they got this system out too early. Which is another fucking shame as the subway is still in dire straits, essential transit workers are about to be terminated  and the bus routes are being diced up in austerity measures to come up with funding the MTA’s 51.5 billion dollar capital plan.  And it’s still worrisome what’s going to happen after the completion of the Canarsie Tunnel and return of full service of the L train and whatever chaos and cataclysms are going to arise with future system upgrades in the next three years. It’s way too late to even ask why couldn’t they just finish all the upgrades and renovations in the subway capital plan in 2024 (pending) and then implement OMNY in all of the stations.

The irony of it all is that the MTA prioritize the convenience of how commuters can pay for mass transit over the convenience entitled to them expecting efficency and quality and safe commutes. Plus the fact that the MTA, the banks and these marketing and advertising firms want you dependent on your cellphones at all times for some (obvious) reason.

Here’s hoping some of that MTA capital plan money doesn’t go into buying human scale pea pods.

Must. Use. OMNY.

Never. Swipe. Again.

Tap. Is. Safe.

Tap. Is. Easy.

Andy Byford Walks Away From The M.T.A.!/quality/90/?, “we” will not

On Thursday morning it was all he can stand and he can’t stands no more. Andy Byford, President of MTA transit services, up and quit his job in barely 2 years at the helm.

But we all saw this coming, in fact he actually tried to resign in October but he decided to hug it out with commuters for few more months. Andy really loves trains, and he really really wanted to conquer the perpetual FUBAR disorganization and dysfunction of the running and budgeting of our maligned transit services. He came to NYC and embrace the subway and buses like their were newborn twins. He really earned the title of #Traindaddy.

But the gargoyle overlord and head muckety muck of the MTA Governor Cuomo was not and never enamored with Andy’s passion for mass transit and as we will see a bit later, honesty and transparency. And after Byford’s spotlight interview on 60 minutes and a big spread in the New Yorker magazine, Mario’s son went the passive aggressive route to undermine his position and even responsibility to improve service and bring much needed renovations and remediations of the transit system. Cuomo basically took a page from former mayor and 9/11 exploiter Rudy Giuliani with his own undermining of his first police commissioner William Bratton when he got glowing attention from a national magazine cover story.

But no matter how hard Transit Poppa Byford tried, he just didn’t have the stamina to take total control (and he actually really did try, no one has this visible ever from the MTA and surely never will again). And it wasn’t is fault, because Mario’s son had to make sure all of his efforts were made to be insignificant so he can hog all the glory for any positive outcomes from them.

As this digital publication pointed out last time trying to get the traindaddy’s attention, he was doomed to from the start despite his fast forward plan as trains continued to break down, signals and switches still malfunctioned, infrastructure continued to fray and he also had to deal with that moron tyrant Cuomo constantly riding his ass, especially when Mario’s insecure son devalued his role and position as president and reduced Byford to basically a public relations flack for the subway.

It’s hard to get inside the mind of an intelligent dutiful public servant like Sir Byford, but I know how people can snap when they are being undermined, giving unreasonable demands and belittling reassignments on the job as well as seeing and experiencing things that just make your head explode and I think these were the things that broke his brain:

Starting with the L train revival. President Byford broke the news that the Canarsie Tunnel was so damaged from Hurricane Sandy six years earlier (on top of the certain internal dilapidation after not repairing for that amount of time) that it needed an entire overhaul that required the L to be shut down for a year and four months. Then when January 2019 came around, Generalissimo Cuomo got his official casual jacket on and went into the tunnel with some college professor eggheads and decided to keep the L train running and use another yet cheaper plan to repair the tunnel and reorganize the power supply while letting the L continue to run on limited schedules, thereby throwing Byford’s more feasible and responsible plan that took his entire first year assembling it and threw it in the garbage. The only thing that this really helped was to keep the ossified, overvalued real estate rental market solvent by the L’s train stations along Williamsburg and Bushwick. This heinous overvalued market speculation/fabrication has now spread further south to East New York. And now the MTA decided to add fucking Wifi to the tunnel also.

As if that insult wasn’t demeaning enough, Mario’s megalomaniac son then put Andy through his own summer of hell by diminishing his leadership role as NYCT president, transferring the control of all subway renovation and construction projects to advisory firm Alix Partners while splitting up the transit dept. causing Byford to lose control over the buses. With this unheralded demotion, Byford went from a proactive hands on manager to a glorified public relations flack to promote subway improvements and fixes for Sith Lord Andrew to glom credit for them. With one stroke, Cuomo reduced Andy Byford from traindaddy to Mr. Pitiful.

The tragic irony of Andrew’s decision to overhaul the offices and Byford’s responsibilities instead of the subway manifested itself in more terrible and predictable mishaps on the trains below and above ground. Most notably one afternoon at Grand Central Station, when the ceiling on the mezzanine broke and vomited gallons and gallons of water onto the floor, as MTA workers left a lone bucket there to catch it. Byford actually showed up and grabbed a big broom and was pushing the fetid water itself in a vain display of accountability. Unfortunately he wasn’t around in Long Island City at the Court Square station when a bearing wall from a tower development collapsed, forming a wave on the platform that nearly got a commuter killed by an arriving train.

Months after Andy was playing janitor, the recently appointed NYC Transit figurehead went into his new role as pitchman and led an embarrassing press conference for the implementation and unsubtle praise of the OMNY tap pay fare system as another day of transit chaos was happening simultaneously.

Andy also had to hit the streets to address all the rusty metal chunks and broken pieces of wood that were flying off the elevated tracks in Queens, landing on cars and nearly killing drivers and pedestrians. At least his hands on action resulted in getting netting for them.

These things, plus Cuomo’s micromanaging his MTA flunkie board to keep things hush hush about  the spending and planning for projects and fixes for the subway and other projects like extending Penn Station from the general public and Andy and his transit team surely led him to consider and following up on quitting back in October but apparently the governor still needed him to stick around as the $51,500,000,000 MTA capital plan was about to be implemented and the optics would have been immensely bad for Cuomo if one of the main authors of it would leave town.

But come 2020, it was getting clearer that Andy wasn’t going to be around much longer and all signs were there that he mostly wasn’t. For when the Capital Plan was ratified by the MTA board, Byford was not there for it. And a few days after it was passed on the first Monday of this year as millions of people were going back to work and school, the entire transit system broke down after signal malfunctions on the 7 and a switch malfunction on the B lines, throwing all train lines into chaos. Even though it dominated the news on online websites and social media, Andy Byford oddly did not appear at all to assuage commuters.

Then there was the MTA’s decision to overhaul the entire bus map in Queens. While supplying their narrative by describing the new routes as remixes, cutting some essential bus stops as enhancements and supplying the routes with articulated buses, the MTA tried to enhance their plans by being sneaky as they opened their first workshop that  with commuters that they barely publicized by holding it in a basement of a building surrounded by scaffolding in Jackson Heights. Thanks to social media and the blog Queens Crap (of which I am an admin) that published the meetings and the horrible new bus route remix, thousands of citizens showed up.

And what do you know, among the people in that crowded rumpus room was none other than the traindaddy himself Mr. Byford, even though his responsibility of running the buses were yanked away from him. Byford did what he did best and without fear and took questions, ideas and very loud constructive criticism from all and reassured them that the routes were subjected to change (or to be remixed again).

But the last straw that could have led Byford to quit so soon came last Thursday at the 71st Ave/Continental Ave. station. When workers in a control tower was overwhelmed so much by the sight of a bedbug (that’s right a single bedbug) that they evacuated their work space and caused four transit lines to be delayed for hours for it to get fumigated. Sure Andy quit because of his reduced role caused by an advisory firm hired by Cuomo that specializes in downsizing working staffs, but it’s not hard to imagine the Byford’s head getting beet red and blowing steam out of his ears to hear how those tower workers reacted. (Sorry to digress but why is it even called a tower when it’s actually a bunker since it’s underground).

And that is that. Andy Byford, the most hands on, accessible and accountable MTA official this city and state has ever had is gone. And he walks away after actually improving transit schedules thanks to Save Safe Seconds program that made the trains go faster and making the trains more handicapped accessible, even though the new train speeds may be responsible for all that heavy debris falling from the elevated trains and a judge’s decision favoring a class action lawsuit for the transit system provide such access respectably. The only mistake Byford did (and it was a big one) was approving a contract for Bombadier to supply new trains on the A, C, J, lines that kept malfunctioning, notably one incident where a door remained widely ajar as it was still moving (he actually had a similar problem with that train manufacturer when he ran Toronto’s transit. But at least he won’t have to put up with Cuomo’s moronic totalitarian bullshit and arrogance and de Blasio’s indifference and shirking of his own responsibility for the subway and buses that run in the city he governs (in fact it’s doubtful if the corrupt mayor was ever in the same room with Byford at all during his tenure).

Although he may be bailing out at the right time. In a few months, the Canarsie Tunnel is scheduled to be complete. It may have saved the commutes of millions of citizens and kept morons from moving from their 3,000 a month tenement and tower apartments but the ramifications from it may turn out to be dire being that Cuomo’s decision to use  cinnabun glaze polymer to fortify the decayed walls might not endure and keeping the L running during construction as silica dust was floating in the ether on the platforms of 1st Avenue and Bedford Ave. will surely have an effect on commuters waiting for their rides in years to come akin to all those who cleaned up the twin towers remains at ground zero after the 9/11 attacks.

But at least we’ll all enjoy the convenience of using our phones to pay the fare dealing with this shit with OMNY. You won’t even have to take it out your pocket either for the scanners can usurp your data by walking past by or through the turnstile.

These things including a rise in crime on the subways, graffiti coming back, the homeless population preferring to use the trains and stations as safer alternatives for habitation and continuing persistent problems with the antiquated switches and signals and even new signals (especially now that the top expert vetted and picked by Byford quit a few days after), and most essentially the persistence of the moron tyrant governor and his MTA board’s continued secrecy and obligatory but opaque releases of the budgeting to fix and modernize mass transit, it’s plain to see that even the beloved Traindaddy couldn’t save Cuomo’s MTA, the worst fucking transit system in the universe.

And we the commuters have to choke on that.

I just thought of something else. Mario’s son’s hiring of Andy Byford came right after the summer of hell he declared for mass transit back in 2018 and at time Cuomo promised a new era of transparency and accountability just like when he promised he would bring the same to end the embedded and ingrained corruption in the halls of the state assembly and senate with starting the Moreland Commission. And like Byford when the transit system proved to overwhelming to fix, Cuomo terminated Moreland too when investigators found so much graft and corruption with the governor’s office and the leaders Silver and Skelos of the assembly and senate, leading to the arrest and conviction of those two scumbags.

The Great NYC Ferry Subsidies Robbery And City Bus Austerity

$9.75 a ride and 670 + million for that piece of shit

“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”

S’chn T’gai Spock.

The NY Post reported the other day that the prime demographic that frequently uses the NYC Ferry are upper class people making six figures.

But we all knew it.

The fucking New York City Economic Development Corporation knew it.

The goddamn New York City Mayor knew it.

And both of them fucking spent every second of city time trying to hide it for two years.

The NYC Ferry is mostly used by the wealthiest commuters by the river towers that are owned and run by all of Mayor deFaustio’s developer overlord donors. Notably at the ports on the west Brooklyn coast line where it’s a leisure walk away from them (plus Hunter’s Point in Queens).

The current cost for each taxpayer for each $2.75 ride across the rivers and under the bridges is currently at $9.75. A seven dollar loss for each ride millions of people don’t take or don’t bother to take because they don’t live near the ports. And because they probably have no need and use for the boats because they are just plain inconvenient for where they are located and where they need to go.

If they are not the overvalued rental market rate rent paying tower people, it’s tourists and hipsters going to Rockaway Beach. Which is probably the most popular destination of the city gentrification yachts. Which is where some of this profligate spending on this boondoggle is located.

Because whats constantly overlooked about this obscene and overtly useless and consistently vacant aqua transit service is that there is a free shuttle bus service when you get off the ferry. Although ever since this started, you have to pay another fare to get on a city bus.

Now above is the Rockaway port, the picture was taken in 2017 late in the summer when it first started. It should be noted that these stylish shuttle buses weren’t available until late August and the city was actually using big ass charter buses to transport upper class denizens to the beach.

Above is the city bus stop for the Q22, now why are free ferry shuttle buses necessary when you can just set up a free transfer from the city bus to go to your desired destination, because both buses go to the same places east and west of the peninsula. Why clearly spend money irresponsibly on some private company buses when you got a long time city transit service right there in front of your face?

Because said private company, San Francisco based Hornblower wouldn’t be able to profit from reallocated funds usurped from city buses as service continues to get worse.

And nothing illustrates this more than two recent decisions by the MTA, the worst fucking transit system in the universe, about two major routes that are being gutted and also dissected with scattershot redesigns.

Take the B46 in Brooklyn (while you still can) that goes up and down Utica Ave through three towns and circuits through another four starting at Flatlands and ending in Williamsburg; just last summer the MTA cut 8 buses assigned for the route, cutting four buses from the evening rush and another four for the weekend routes plus the Select bus service line from Mill Basin. Leaving thousands of commuters wasting more time waiting at the stops and taking forever to get back home, in addition to working people reliant on these articulated buses winding up late to work to their weekend jobs. As if paying 2.75 for truncated service was enough of a burden for the majority of them earning around 25k or less a year. All for the MTA to save a measly 2.4 million dollars this year.

Despite the MTA’s pathetic attempt at positive reinforcement propaganda by calling these cuts “enhancements” and the size bigger buses to replace just as big and more reliable buses as “articulated”, commuters in East Flatbush, Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights are not fooled to say the least. Even the “articulated” bus drivers are livid with the service cuts “enhancements”. This enhancement transit service decision actually followed recent “enhancements to the B38, B15 and B54 bus lines that didn’t get as much local media attention.

Now the (mostly) boyz and galz at the MTA are taking their enhancement ax to Queens as they tried to sneak an expansive new city bus route redesign map on the world’s borough. And it’s a doozy, as it reveals more truncated routes, bus reductions and the elimination of bus stops. The MTA even had the audacity to hold a workshop meeting in a basement rumpus room under the radar from residents of Jackson Heights in a lame attempt at obligatory transparency. Citizens still showed up in droves waiting to get in to rage at Andy Byford’s face about the “enhancements” coming to their busy route. All he could do was feebly say that they are not set in stone.

The whole reason for these cuts in service was based on dubious data claiming that people weren’t taking the buses as much. So the bright idea and solution is to make them less available. Got it. Somehow these data manipulators (datanipulators?) contracted by the MTA weren’t aware of or too stubborn to recognize the existence of working people who didn’t work in Manhattan, elderly and handicapped people, teenagers, young and middle aged adults going on leisure jaunts would consider using the bus for transit.

So where and how does this correlate to the pleasure ferries for the rich, the millions of dollars all those bus service enhancements have to wind up somewhere. Well, the budget bill for these boats for the past 2 years is $637,000,000 and even with a spending freeze order for more Hornblower boats by Comptroller Scott Stringer. While the city provided the buses with only $250,000,000 during that time. Bill de Blasio and the fucking EDC has spent 2 1/2 times more funding the gentrification ferries than on the city buses since the boats set sail.

It’s bad enough that the NYC ferry is constantly vacant most of the time and doesn’t even compare to the millions of riders every day that take the bus to justify the inequitable subsidy and daily service funding, but even worse is that Hornblower is making the most money from it by just existing even though the city already had two reliable ferry companies. But wouldn’t it have made a little sense to align the Q22 with the ferry instead of having a private company shuttle transferring passengers around if they weren’t going to charge anyone? So taxpayers don’t have to subsidize Hornblower’s shuttle buses too? The same with the other ferry ports around the boroughs also.

But integration of the city buses and the ferry is far from the elitist mind of defiant hypocrite Mayor de Blasio. Because going by his recent decision to blow off the MTA’s capital plan meeting with Governor Cuomo and recent arrogant declarations of his disinterest of allocating funding to the transit system he’s also accountable for, it’s obvious he still doesn’t want to do anything with the buses at all.

Despite the colossal waste of money going into the water drifting boondoggle, it actually has made a little bit of progress regarding ridership with the addition of the Soundview port in the Bronx, which has made the ferries oh so less white in the past year. But the racial and class issue could have been remediated a lot more if de Blaz and the EDC would have gave the town of Canarsie a port stop, especially since the town actually wanted it. This would have done wonders for the income and race data being that the town and nearby Flatlands and Brownsville are mostly poor, middle class, Black and Spanish. But the Mayor and the EDC saw their petition and told them to drop dead. Unfortunately for Canarsie, the area has an inequitable lack of luxury towers.

There will probably (expectedly) be more belated revelations that will anchor the NYC Ferry with more unsavory things like rigged contracting and the expected donations from Hornblower to the constantly money soliciting and grubbing de Blasio while he continues to re-allocate city transit service funding on these subsidy leaking boats as the service expands to other locations in a few years like Coney Island, which at this moment predatory developers are looking to devour. Or “enhance”

de Blasio’s and the EDC’s enhancement of the breezy water transit for the tower people has led to austerity measures for the working people, aged and handicapped on the streets when it should be the other way around. A pointed ear alien once said that the needs of the many should outweigh the needs of the few. He also was very devoted to logic. And it is clear and obvious, just like this ferry report, that Blaz and the shitty EDC have no sense and never had any use of logic for the distribution of these boats. But they had the logistics for them. And it was for the people they prefer to convenience. And for everyone else that needs the bus, it’s all illogistics.

NYC to bus commuters. Drop Dead.

2019 ended with a rise in four major categories:

Robberies went up by 3.1 % (probably stemming from cellphone theft from peoples dependence on them for purchases and also addiction to texting and binge watching)

Assaults are up 1.4% (due to sudden rise of attacks based on anti-Semitism)

There were 766 total shootings a rise of 2.9% from 2019 and murders cracked the 300 mark in three years with a total 318 in the safest big city in the world

One evening in December, one murder would wind up getting international attention.

In Morningside Park, an 18-year-old woman, Barnard college student and bass player went for a walk in the park nearby her school and then was attacked and brutally beaten on the base of the stairs in a robbery attempt and was stabbed multiple times all over her body. The woman crawled up the stairs while bleeding profusely that got the attention of a patrol guard by Columbia University who just came back from doing his rounds. A butterfly knife and a phone belonging to her were found next to her body. The woman bled to death hours later.

What was initially described in the NY Daily News and NY Post as an attack by a group of men was debunked when the NYPD arrested a 13-year-old boy suspect that reportedly confessed to being an accomplice to the murder. The boy told investigators that he was with his two friends, both 14, and was just looking to rob people. He said they came upon the woman after his friends saw a man and didn’t bother with him and went after her. The boy then recounted his friend putting her in a headlock and going through her pockets then stabbed her when she fought back and bit his other accomplice on the finger.

One of the boys was also arrested but was released for lack of evidence, and the boy suspected of committing the murder reportedly showed up to the precinct for an interview but ran away and was out of state for weeks. The NYPD then put up his picture for publishing in the local papers and websites. He finally returned to Harlem with his relatives and met with the defense attorney and was subsequently not charged and released, as the boy in custody remains the only one charged with the killing even though he claimed he never stabbed her. Although he alleged in his account of the homicide that he did pick up the knife and handed it to the alleged killer before they both ran from the park. Then there is part where the victim bit the boys finger that led to the stabbing, so far no DNA report has surfaced of the suspect who just resurfaced. The lone suspect is still imprisoned in a juvenile facility as he awaits trial in family court in March, as the killer is still roaming on the streets.

As the search for the murder weapon on the parks grounds and ponds were fruitless, the NYPD has been extremely cautious in handling this. The chief of detectives, on his first week on the job, refused to respond on the progress of the homicide case (although he did reveal that the third suspect never did run away when he was brought to the precinct). In a combination of trepidation and stonewalling, it’s clear that the NYPD and prosecutors don’t want this to turn into a Central Park five case from exactly 30 year ago that will cost the city another 50 million dollars.

Mayor de Blasio’s response to the murder from his crooked mouth was moronic and tone-deaf as expected, as he remarked how unbelievable that a killing like that could have happened in this city and under his watch at that place (his actual sentence structure). But as usual with the pathological, habitual lying mayor; the facts on the ground belie those parsing words. Because Morningside Park is still treacherous to walk around there at night (and day) despite all the constant reports and press release boasts of lowering crime in the last two decades as robberies have rose 82% in the park in the last year.

In fact, just a few weeks before Tessa Majors murder in Morningside Park, a man was attacked inside a dog park by a man who attempted to hold him up at knifepoint, but the man clocked him in the face and the suspect ran away as the man fell down a flight of stairs after the tussle. Outside of the park a food delivery man was held by two men brandishing a knife and a gun and robbed his scooter, $60 and his cellphone. During the search of the park a few days after the murder, cops nabbed a man for holding up an app-food delivery guy and stealing his bike.

But it’s not just the usually clueless mayor to cite to blame, for Columbia and Barnard were not diligent enough to warn students about the rise in crime in Morningside Park, as students either had to hear from more streetwise students or presume it was safe probably because of the safest big city narrative being constantly bandied about by elected officials and NYPD monthly pressers and parroted by corporate local news media.

Speaking of the NYPD, the NY Post did a followup story on rising crime at Morningside Park with a student from Columbia who was attacked on those very same steps where Ms. Majors was slayed, when three boys surrounded him and robbed $120 off him when one of them flashed a box cutter at him. This was his recollection:

“They asked me where I was from and if I had any money. At first, I didn’t think they were threatening me, so I told them I didn’t have any money. Then, they showed me an open knife, so I gave them my wallet and they took my money,” Yu told The Post Friday from his Harlem apartment.

“I was surprised this happened to me. Before I came, I heard that New York is pretty safe, but I encountered these things and it’s really unfortunate.”

When Yu went to the NYPD to report the incident, he was told “several people” had been robbed at the same place “by the same teenagers” but cops couldn’t do much about it because “they aren’t adults.”

“When I heard about the girl who was killed, I thought it was the same group of teenagers, and I was scared,” the student went on, adding he plans to take the campus shuttle from now on.

Do you know what this really means? That if Tessa Majors survived the mugging instead of bleeding to death on the stairs and being that the accused are all minors, the NYPD would have done nothing to help her.

It means that the NYPD is culpable for the death of Tessa Majors.

As well as New York City and State for these misinformed and poorly written bail reform laws and quite possibly the unethical machinations that led to ratifying the eventual closing of Rikers Island. But mostly the culpability of Majors death and any recent past and current victim of violent crime is on de Blasio and the departed commissioners William Bratton and James O’Neill for continuing the blue wall of insouciance.

In Midtown, concrete from a building facade broke off and landed on a woman walking on the sidewalk, instantly killing her. The woman was a professional architect. The building was cited for maintenance violations of the facade back in April and the management never bothered to fix it.

Also in Midtown at the 34th St. Station, a man drunk off his ass fell off the platform onto to tracks just as the E train arrived and rolled over him. The man survived.

In Harlem, a man went on a 20 minute perverted fondling spree as he stalked three women while loitering at the 145th Station. First he grabbed a woman’s ass after following her for two blocks, then he grabbed a woman in her coochie walking back to the station and then grabbed a woman while she was walking on the steps to the station and grabbed her ass and threw her down.

He’s also been cited for four more molestations at the St Nicholas Ave Station and on a street corner in three of them where he threw one victim against the fence and ripped her tights off.

Also in Harlem, a man got shot four times getting hit in his leg and stomach following a street hassle with four other men on a street corner.

Again in Harlem, two construction workers were dangling on a broken lift that fell while working on a building development.

And again in Harlem, three people got injured when two cars they were in collided into each other, sending an SUV careening to the sidewalk and crashing into a pharmacy and a city housing department car crashing into a building scaffold.

And again in Harlem at the 125th St. Station, a man randomly shoved a man onto the train tracks. The victim was rescued by other commuters who pulled him out. The pusher man made a scene and yelled at the prosecutor during his arraignment at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse when all his nearly 60 prior arrests were pointed out to him, including the nine times from 2019 alone.

And again in Harlem, a homeless man lying down on the street got killed when a car ran over him.

And again in Harlem, a man was found dead inside his apartment.

And again in Harlem, a man was found dead on the fire escape of an apartment building.

And again in Harlem, a man got shot to death inside a hotel after having an argument with his eventual killer.

In Times Square, at the 42nd St. Station, a man got into an argument with another man who was with his wife and then brawled with him and stabbed him in the neck on the A train.

Also in Times Square, a man got stabbed in the leg following a street fight and staggered into a hotel claiming he was shot.

In the Upper West Side at the 103rd St. Station, a shopping cart left abandoned on the platform was lit on fire and exploded. Some psycho left a bunch of aerosol cans inside of it. Was this the work of some mental case or raw terrorist test plan?

Also in the Upper West Side, a gang of four men committed ten burglaries in seven residence and three restaurants where they robbed over $5,200 in cash. They broke into apartments and businesses by entering through a back door and on the rooftops.

Again in the Upper East Side, a man called another man a jew bastard and then continued slurring him as he beat him down on the sidewalk.

In Columbus Circle, massive chunks and blades of ice fell from the two new Billionaire Row towers to streets. Surprisingly, only one person got injured. The towers are still being developed.

In Hell’s Kitchen, two men robbed 22 app-food delivery workers of their e-motored cycles by cornering them as they are dropping off orders and spraying pepper spray in their faces in a three month mugging spree. All while riding around on e-motored cycles themselves.

Also in Hell’s Kitchen, a man was gruesomely killed as he was crossing the street when a private garbage recycling truck driver hit him while failing to yield turning into the intersection.

In Penn Station, a man got stabbed during a fight with another man during rush hour by the Amtrak station entrance.

Also in Chelsea, a homeless woman and her trusty dog were forcibly removed from a spot under a building scaffolding where she was taking shelter from the elements on the orders of New York City Council Speaker and Mayoral Candidate Corey Johnson, a man who was once homeless himself.

The woman was given an ultimatum to go into a shelter or have her belongings taken and destroyed and given a summons. Weeks before this bumrush ordered by Cojo, the woman was sexually harassed by a man who kept persisting and her dog mauled the deviant.

Again in Chelsea, a cop got injured when his patrol car lost control and crashed into three other vehicles the flipped over while responding to an emergency. Probably responding to a homeless person keeping warm napping under a scaffolding.

He then accused them of racism and kept jabbing at them with his umbrella, stabbing the elderly man in his ear.

And again in Soho, a woman got killed while crossing the street when a driver backed his box truck into her on the crosswalk.

And again in Soho, a woman partying on an apartment building rooftop with her friends attempted to hop to another rooftop by walking on cover connecting them and fell ten feet when it collapsed under her, causing her to be trapped between the gap of the  buildings as her friends forgot about her.

In the Lower East Side, a man and a woman sneaked into an apartment building and stole a bike that was locked to a pole with a cable that was weaker than a shoelace.

In Greenwich Village, a man reported missing for 3 days was found dead behind an apartment building he fell off the top from.

In the West Village, two men knocked off an app-food delivery man off his e-motored cycle and rode away on it. The men then snatched another e-motored cycle that was left unlocked. Both motorcycles were collectively worth $3,600

New Yorkers and tourists alike can rejoice over extra elbow room this holiday season as they visit the iconic Rockefeller Christmas Tree in Midtown. Mayor de Blasio on Friday announced a temporary expansion of the pedestrian space around Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall to help ensure the safety and comfort of visitors at the famous holiday tree.

“The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is New York City’s crown jewel during the holidays, and we’re always excited to welcome the world to see it—but when the world descends on Rockefeller Center for a month on end, additional tools are clearly necessary so that our Vision Zero agenda stays in place,” de Blasio said. “This historic announcement pedestrianizing Rockefeller Center will keep holiday revelers safe while ensuring minimal disruption to the rest of the life of the city.”

Officials will be using moveable barriers to help with partial or full street closures to help with foot traffic.

The FDNY-Uniformed Firefighter Association is criticizing the decision to shut down streets around Rockefeller Center for pedestrians during the holidays.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced last week that the city would expand pedestrian space in the area and close streets to traffic, saying the increasing number of people in the area is “creating a real safety issue.”

Gerald Fitzgerald, president of the firefighters union, put out a statement Sunday saying he believes there will be increased citywide gridlock as a result of the changes — and that gridlock could affect emergency vehicles.

“The move to increase ‘pedestrian space’ surrounding Rockefeller Center is misguided and makes this city less safe – plain and simple. As it is, traffic is interfering with our firefighters’ abilities to reach the scene of a fire, but this new plan will have wide-felt repercussions in the form of traffic from river-to-river. We all want pedestrian safety, but a key component of safety for all is the ability for New York’s first responders to reach the scene of an emergency, and this is not the best way to ensure the safety of New York’s over 8-million residents and millions of holiday visitors,” he said.

It’s the worst wonderful time of the year

As the city’s decision has caused such division regarding safety fears

It’s the worst wonderful time of the year

At the worst fucking area of all

At Rockefeller Center there’s too much congestion for daily commuters to bear

It’s the worst fucking area of all

There’s barriers and bollards and cops that are guarding the masses from unconfirmed terrorist threats,

The buses are backed up and people are mashed up like cows trudging to their abattoir deaths.

It’s the worst wonderful time of the year,

With thousands of cops deployed to four blocks for danger perceived to be near

It’s the worst wonderful time of the year

(Swinging part)

Traffic’s a standstill from pedestrian overfill of tourists and commuters on cellphones

From taking pictures and texting their messages to all those that no one else gives two fucks about.

It’s the worst wonderful time of the year.

Now this space is established as bus service gets ravished to convenience holiday cheer

It’s the worst wonderful time

The worst wonderful time

It’s the worst wonderful time

of the year!!!!

(Here’s the fucking tree, the reason for all this stupidity)
