Following an NYPD press conference about crime rates last September, reported murders (+3%), rapes (+26%!) and grand larceny attempts (+7.6%) have gone up as other crime activity has went slightly down.

The rape stats according to the commish’s theory is that the cultural impact of the #metoo movement is leading women to report more incidents which shows that those with authority are still blaming the victim. When rape was at higher levels back in the 70’s and 80’s there was no social media or even an internet to cite but they were definitely reported and referred to when the Mayor and the Chief of Police and other NYPD high brass when they compare how wonderful the city is now compared to the Bad Old Days.

And the slight drop of crimes like robbery (-2), felony assault (-6.5%), burglary (-3%) and grand larceny (-1%), shows that the level of crime stats is holding steady.

Here are shitload of examples of them from the last month, including a bunch that will make the sugar-coated press conference in November.

Brooklyn

In Canarsie, a retired detective named Ludwig got arrested at his home by Internal Affairs for fulfilling his life-long dream directing a prostitution and gambling ring with his wife and two daughters along with 3 detectives, two sergeants and two cops from precincts in Corona, Sunset Park, and Hempstead, Long Island resulting from a two-year sting where the perpetrators were able to run a 2 million dollar a year industry by using the badge to thwart competitors, warn their associates of impending raids and to get courtesy massages and coitus. In case anyone is dismayed about corruption embedded in the “greatest police force in the world”, be relieved to know that these skells will still be getting their pensions.

Also in Canarsie, a drive-by shooting of a man went awry when the shooter smashed his car into an ambulance trying to get away.

In Bed-Stuy, two shootings took place an hour apart in broad daylight as a man got shot in his legs and another man got shot in the chest and died as another man with him got shot in the ass. The one who got killed was the son of an aide to the Brooklyn Borough President.

Also in Bed-Stuy, a man wearing a shirt emblazoned with a Yankee player having a shitty year held up construction employer at knifepoint and robbed him of his company’s payroll of $3,300.

And again in Bed-Stuy, a man killed his long-time friend by stabbing him in the gut following an argument.

In Marine Park, a homeless man torched a fleet of  135 cars on two floors in the parking garage in the Kings Plaza shopping mall causing a 7-alarm fire and waltzed out walking in the lot with matches in hand. 18 firefighters and 3 citizens got injured by the blaze.

The arsonist persistently slept in the garage and claimed that he started the fire because people were having sex in the vehicles and it disturbed and offended him. The loon should have dialed 311 or taken it up with consumer affairs.

In Midwood, a man who got arrested after he assaulted a worker at a gas station attempted to provoke a police officer by calling her the same vulgar racial epithet 50 times over and over again.

Sarah. on Twitter Hello MTA and NYCTSubway ...your ceilings are falling on people again.…(sarah c)

And again in Downtown Brooklyn at the Atlantic Ave/Barclays Center Station, the ceiling collapsed and shitted plaster and concrete all over the platform as an elevator at the station is constantly out of service. The bankster sponsored arena since it’s opening  as contributed absolutely zero to maintain the infrastructure of the station and is negligent of the elevator that they shoddily built after a ludicrous deal with the state where Barflays spent 76 million to keep the station “functioning” without the responsibility for it’s upkeep.

As they held him at gunpoint in the other man’s car they forced the worker to call his boss and demanded a ransom of $700. And again in Brownsville, an off-duty cop got robbed of his vehicle and his government issued gun inside by a hooker when he went to an ATM to pay her for her service. The jackass left his keys in the ignition with the motor running, a bad habit of most cops while on patrol despite laws against idling for three minutes for citizens. Turns out the reason the prostitute stole his shit was because the guy owed her $2,000 for prior coitus with her.

Another result of Mayor Big Slow and your city’s tardiness and unpreparedness which will embed a stench on that block for 3 years if your city doesn’t relocate them.

Weeks earlier at College Point, that same bodack ultraviolent superstar rapper instigated a fight at a strip club when she ordered her entourage to throw bottles, chairs and a hookah at two bartenders just weeks before her high heel shoe joust with her rival mc at the fashion show. This woman, who left the 109th Pct. in Flushing guffawing like a moron after she faced charges, is a representative of a putrid gilded age going on in NYC being enabled by celebrity fan worship by the youth of today and the doting starfucking electeds that let these “talents” cause havoc with impunity because of the city’s economic dependence on frivolus spending and celebrity lifestyles and the night scene.

This is yet another incident of cops using fatal excessive force to handle mentally ill people and also peculiar machinations to cover it up. Why would the cop pull out his taser and not utilize it?

Mission Virtually Accomplished: The Lefferts Blvd. Elevator Is Activated.

South Ozone Park, N.Y., U.S.A.

In what I admit could be an abberation in the usual posts that get written here, here is an actual good news bulletin and sign of albeit late ass civic progress. As reported here since this digital publication’s inception, it took almost 4 years, but the main entrance of the Lefferts Blvd has completed with the activation of the elevator! And it actually is quite shiny and nice. It officially got turned on about a few weeks ago about 4 months ahead of the proposed 3th quarter deadline.

Check it out!!!

Hard to believe this took almost half a decade. But at least the essential part of the station is done being that it’s by the death defying horror show intersection that is Liberty Avenue and Lefferts Blvd where two accordion buses stop every day, making egress to the street finally a satisfying routine.

All is not well though, for it’s still the worst fucking transit system in the universe. For there are still bollards, barricades, equipment, vehicles and miscellaneous debris and materials cluttering the curbs taking up two blocks worth of parking spaces. For the station exit and entrance at the west side of the station are still under renovation.

Why the continued cantankerous position with this? Because it looks like the elevator finally got the long overdue fast track initiative when the new sheriff of the MTA came to town from Toronto, Andy Byford who is a big stickler when it comes to the handicapped commuters. For MTA brass clearly noticed what he accomplished by making Toronto’s transit system entirely handicap accessible while cleaning up his new office.

It is a tad surprising that they got the elevator operating, but all that street hoarding under the El looks like it’s going to remain there a while and perhaps might pile up more. When I saw the first card sensor on a turnstile and the dumbass energy wasting digital screens inside train cars a few weeks before the grand debut of the Lefferts Lift, I almost plotzed.

The rush to get these out there is pretty goddamn stupid and no doubt at huge expense, especially that the screens were installed on the old cars that are being planned to be replaced by a new fleet and the payment method won’t be implemented until 2019 and has the potential to fail and be prone to errors. The MTA decision to start a rummage sale of all their “antique” discarded signs, seats, benches and garbage cans, is a pathetic shitty way to start to re-accrue these moronic expenditures. The funny thing is that those antique garbage cans, which were misguidedly decided to be removed from the platforms in an attempt to curb litter and rodent colonies, can obviously still be useful.

Cynical observations aside it is a timely tiny miracle the Lefferts Station entrance got done, for the MTA is still having massive FUBAR snafus, being all the other various problems the system has got going for it this year.

Like the new countdown clocks which are already showing consistent inaccuracies and placed in ridiculous hard to view spots.

A thorough 21st century modernization of the Penn Station hub has exhibited a massive wall to wall crack on the floor just a short few months after the state of the art passageway opened.

That a lot of delays are actually caused by commuters looking down at or diddling their fingers on their cellphones as they enter and exit trains, giving the effect of a herd of lobotomized sheep or herd of cattle slowly marching to getting shed or milked or to their certain death.

That small businesses along the north elevated tracks in Astoria have lost 50% of their customers because of the storage of materials and vehicles for way overdue renovations hogging parking and sidewalk spaces.

And of course the obvious long overdue shutdown of the irresponsibly neglected Canarsie Tunnel on the L line. As doomsday draws near in just another year, the MTA and the city still doesn’t have a concrete plan for commuters, especially the effect it will have to the already crushed sardine boxes on the Queens and Brooklyn lines. It looks like the appointed subway ambassadors will have to update their itineraries and probably have to don body armor or chainmail to ward off the frustrated masses.

But most fortunate of all for the citizenry reliant on the Lefferts Station to start and end their grinding workdays and the easement of physical stress on the aged and infirm is that it has evaded the perpetual distraction nonsensical battle of half-wits and directionless obstructionist feud over transit and transportation funding and policy making between the neoliberal bags of dead dicks and shit Mayor William de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Mario’s son has gotten deserved heat for his rush to open the four stop 2nd avenue for his grand opening suarez. Since that day and his proclaimed summer of hell, he has allocated and spent billions on boondoggles, minor transit extensions, and prioritized profligate ornamental improvements over infrastructure improvements in the city’s dilapidated subways, like the aforementioned newly cracked and ruined floor at Penn Station.

There is the recent decision by Cuomo through his intern commissioner Joe Lotha to add a third track on the LIRR between two close stops for a (not so) cool $1.8 billion. There was the not surprising revelation that the cashless and humanless toll booths in the past 5 years incurred over 80 million dollars in lost fares and fees.

And for shits and giggles in an egregious stunt that would make Chris Christie share his taco bowl with Mario’s son, the governor emailed commands to his MTA staffers relayed to transit supervisors to defer most of the blame for power failure transit delays to Con Edison by cooking the books on the number of them four-fold just so he can justify his tainted stats while doing his occasional Excelsior shirt sleeves rolled up subterranean photo op to divert attention from the generally known fact of the consistency of the antique signal system breakdowns.

And the topper might be what Guv’ner Andy announced in the state of the state and of his delirious mind when he promised to build another subway tunnel going to Red Hook, Brooklyn by extending the local 1 train from downtown Manhattan to coincide with the prospective hyper-development plan in a hurricane flood zone to build affordable luxury towers and a park there for the next hipster pilgrimage. This was considered as Trump’s tax cut law, the Oligarch Welfare law, will put a stop to that plan just like it officially did on the extension of the 2nd Avenue Q line to 125th Street.

Mario’s son’s costly congestion pricing plan to fund transit took a big hit when Doug Schifter took his life in protest of this extra tax on struggling independent cab and delivery drivers. And de Faustio millionaire tax plan, which he pilfered from assemblyman Michael Ginaris, is seeing absolutely no support at all.

As for the perjuring mayor of the city where the subway runs, well, apparently it did not deem worth a mention either an acknowledgement in the new city budget which actually exceeded 4 billion dollars from last year. Yet somehow his staff and his real estate donors lobby group is still pushing for the BQX line to get built despite the lead cheerleader quitting on them and a study detailing it’s unsustainability and ballooning costs and it’s unpopularity from the furious residents living by the prospective tracks.

Mayor de Faustio stubbornly refuses to contribute to fund the subway re the emergency plan put forth by Lotha for the city to contribute a little more than half of the $800 million needed to improve it (It actually should be more), for the reason he repeats that the state should pay for it entirely and that they squandered earlier city funding. He would have a point and a justification to his obstinancy if he wasn’t supporting that cruddy BQX, and how he ordered his MTA picks to blow off $200 million for station fixes  because the stations he wanted done were for areas that are in his gentrification fostering and escalating mandatory inclusionary zoning plans for East New York and the South Bronx.

Although de Faustio did find some loot, about a couple million, for an express bus route to Rikers Island.

This summer, the city will also test-run express buses shuttling people directly to and from Rikers out of two public-transit hubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The jailhouse jitneys will cost taxpayers $846,000 this fiscal year and $1.69 million each year after that. The DOC wouldn’t yet say if the shuttles will be free to ride.

N.Y. Post

Both them do share common ground when it comes to the rent and food burdened poor straphangers, since they both saw no need to alleviate their struggles by denying them extra transfers and reduced-fare cards. But as for the funding concerning the maintenance and sustenance of the worst fucking transit system in the universe, of which both are mostly responsible for it’s status, their sniveling petty little rivalry continues as riders get fucked over for another year and possibly infinity.

065

For now, the Lefferts Station is the only aspect of this fucked up transit system of this broke ass city and state that is worth admiring. Even if it’s only for the few minutes entering and exiting it during the elongated overcrowded ride to Manhattan and back. Making it the approximation of a commuting shit sandwich.

It was a four year wait, but ultimately, as with all the chaos that will ensue with all mentioned, it was actually worth it.

It will break down in a month or two though.

Queens

In Glen Oaks by the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center for the mentally ill, multiple reports by residents of assaults, aggressive panhandling and public urination and defecation and drug abuse by people coming from the hospital and wandering around the neighborhood this year. This is causing irritation and ire among the citizenry, because of the decriminalization of the laws concerning pissing and shitting (!!) in the streets, the cops can’t and won’t repress this display of lousy hygiene.

Non-profit groups contracted by the city tasked with the operation of the hospital have been neglectful and absent during community meetings with the NYPD and the OMH Security (Office of Mental Health) and have been uncooperative with all concerned because of HIPPA protections meant for patients that they exploit to shield themselves from transparency and accountability demanded of them. The hospital’s administration management has also been hamstrung and feeding denials about the lack of security and effects on the towns nearby.

Recent rules regarding patients allow them to roam free past the grounds and the hospital is being operated more like a homeless shelter than a place that’s supposed to cure or stem mental illness, thanks to Governor Andy Cuomo’s re-stipulating and re-definition of the facility as a place for “transitional housing” and it’s inpatients as “outpatients” and exacerbated by the slow process of funding to the city’s Health and Hospitals Corporation, leaving the center understaffed of doctors, nurses and probably security and with a low stock of medication, guaranteeing the further decay of the minds of the thousands of people and society as a whole in northeastern Queens.

So, more people have to suffer, which includes business owners, the residents and the mentally ill, because of this stupid petty feud between the arrogant neoliberal elected leaders of the state and city, Mario’s son and de Faustio.

When she yelled at him to stop crowding her, he bragged that he raped women like her and other expletives and then punched her in the mouth. An off-duty cop stepped in to protect her by demanding the vulgar giant shit to get off the train (he should have pulled the emergency brake and have cops wait at the next station).

The victim then tried to report the incident after being notified on her social media account by an NYPD lieutenant but got difficulties instead when she went to a station in the city where she was literally told not to bother and suggested going to the precinct in Brooklyn where she got assaulted even though it was on a moving train passing by the borough and got virtually blown off at the precinct there as they wouldn’t take her demand to press charges on her attacker. NYPD rules stipulate that all precincts must take victim’s complaints and reports no matter where the crime took place.

Fortunately, the giant shit got arrested. So there are some, though minute, qualities of having twitter/facebook being that the area precinct got lambasted and embarrassed for their lack of action. Wrath Of The Scumlords: NYCHA Reneges On Recent City Funding With Shitty Roof Renovation And Secret Water Toxicity.

https://i0.wp.com/www.gkcindustries.com/docs/GKCIndustries/Lafayette%20Houses/aerial%20-%20lafayette%20houses.jpgThe Lafayette Houses. Storm resilient roofs not included.

Brooklyn, N.Y.

NY Daily News: NYCHA signs off on botched Brooklyn roof repairs that allowed water pooling

A major rehab effort failed to fix the roof of a building at a Brooklyn housing development, but NYCHA still signed off on the job as complete — just one of many failures noted in a city audit to be released Monday.

So when it rained this past Nov. 30, about 5 inches of water pooled on the roof of Building Five at the Lafayette Houses in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The pooling, which remained two days later, can cause leaks, and it’s just the type of problem the rehab of all roofs in the Brooklyn development was supposed to address.

City Controller Scott Stringer’s audit describes a pattern of ineptitude in NYCHA’s struggle to repair its aging buildings. Of NYCHA’s 320 developments, 270 are more than 30 years old and 114 were built before 1967. Lafayette, for example, opened in 1962, the year John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth.

Lafayette was part of a $300 million, three-year effort by Mayor de Blasio to fix roofs throughout public housing. NYCHA paid Universal Construction Resources $10.9 million to rehab roofs on all seven Lafayette buildings.

After the November rainstorm, Stringer’s auditors randomly checked Building Five and found the pooled water. Two days later they found it was still there, contrary to industry standards that require water to drain completely within 48 hours.

Stringer’s team also found minor ponding on the roofs of several other NYCHA developments that had been certified as repaired, including the Sumner Houses in Brooklyn, King Towers in Manhattan and South Beach Houses in Staten Island.

Lafayette was part of a $300 million, three-year effort by Mayor de Blasio to fix roofs throughout public housing. NYCHA paid Universal Construction Resources $10.9 million to rehab roofs on all seven Lafayette buildings.

NYCHA could provide no proof that it had actually inspected the work on Building Five roof two years after the repair was completed, even though the warranty required semiannual inspections.

And because NYCHA didn’t identify the problem within the one-year warranty, the taxpayers are on the hook for the lousy repair job.

This is only the start of the nearly half century long neglect of NYCHA housing, the real affordable housing program. And true to their nature when it comes to actually handling the effects of it, they botch another job they are entrusted with.

This recent oversight and criminally incompetent offense comes just months after a one billion dollars and 10 year renovation budget to repair all of the buildings leaky roofs. But after this recent revelation which came out 10 months later after the fact, the residents of these dilapidated buildings and decrepit, neglected apartments probably will look at this allocation with collective apprehension. Mostly it will entail buying extra pots and pans. Hey, maybe they will be dispensed as new amenities to go along with the free Wifi as part of the encompassing new budget.

With this exhibition of gross indifference the spread of more mold and other infrastructure damage from shorting light fixtures to ceiling collapses and wall damage leading to new egress for rodents and roaches of unusual size. It’s going to take another 300 million to fix the damages caused by the roof that they dismissively thought was sound.

How can something of such expenditure and magnitude, especially coming from an administration that is so (but mostly feigns) concern for the less fortunate and from an government organization that is indebted and responsible for the tenancy. Well, look no further than a decision by NYCHA commissioner and technocrat Shoya Olatoye leveled on the Department of Investigation. Ms. Olatoye decided to kill funding for city’s independent inspector general in charge of regulating the housing authority just to save a comparably measly 200 grand. The timing of this decision is equally awful and suspicious.

NY Daily News: NYCHA rejects funding boost for inspector general who discovered fraud, corruption at agency

Last month, Housing Authority Chairwoman Shola Olatoye notified DOI Commissioner Mark Peters she would not grant his request for an extra $199,000, bringing the NYCHA IG’s total budget from $3.3 million to $3.5 million.

In an April 13 letter to Olatoye obtained by the News, Peters notes that last year his office uncovered $6.5 million in fraud, opened 270 investigations and developed 53 criminal cases involving NYCHA staff and tenants.

The inspector general has also issued three critical reports about NYCHA mismanagement, including a stunning revelation that a caretaker falsely claimed smoke detectors were functioning shortly before a fire engulfed an apartment and killed two children.

This may be why this leaky roof report is so late.

Housing Authority spokeswoman Zodet Negron made clear the agency’s historic money crunch was the rationale for the decision. “NYCHA is facing crippling budget cuts ahead that will have a direct impact on the quality of life of our residents, Negron said.

So, the way to save and reallocated funding is to fire the guy responsible for pointing out the profligate waste and corruption in the system.

The answer to such opaqueness and obfuscation being employed and encouraged in the NYCHA higher echelons is to take matters in your own hands. Without resorting to threats to city workers like what happened recently. But even that is, of course unsurprisingly, a tall order. Take the trials and tribulations of reporter Louis Flores who runs the local borough blog Progress Queens, he has been chronicling for few years on the amount of lead in the water service of lines of NYCHA buildings via FOIL requests and discovered a disturbing increase in the toxicity and lead levels over the last four years which included the over threshold amount of 15 parts per billion, which was the amount found in the drinking water of the city of Flint, Michigan.

Mr. Flores found 13 housing projects that exceeded the safe amount from 10 to 100 times.

  • Metro Plaza North, Spanish Harlem, Manhattan : 1,249 ppb
  • Ocean Hill-Brownsville, Crown Heights, Brooklyn : 947 ppb
  • Berry Houses, Staten Island : 675 ppb
  • Forest Hills Co-Op, Forest Hills, Queens : 541 ppb
  • Vladeck II Houses, Lower East Side, Manhattan : 99 ppb
  • White Houses, Spanish Harlem, Manhattan: 89 ppb
  • Ravenswood Houses, Astoria, Queens : 88 ppb
  • Vladeck Houses, Lower East Side, Manhattan : 53 ppb
  • Haber Houses, Coney Island, Brooklyn : 39 ppb
  • Drew-Hamilton Houses, Harlem, Manhattan : 37 ppb
  • Woodside Houses, Woodside, Queens : 32 ppb
  • Queensbridge South Houses, Long Island City, Queens : 17 ppb
  • Vladeck Houses, Lower East Side, Manhattan : 17 ppb

Mr. Flores also found in his request of many buildings below the lead contamination amount but still above 5 ppb, which according to reports from the Flint scandal, is still toxic enough to be a health hazard.

This even got the attention of Attorney General Preet Bharara, as it got included in his investigation on de Blasio’s multifaceted and multi-pronged pay to play shadow government administration.

Alas, A.G. Bharara got sacked by Figurehead Trump on the advice of his shyster advisers which put the end of the case of the Teflon mayor away for good. And now the Department of Environmental Protection has watered down (absolutely pun intended) the most recent FOIL request by Progress Queens with redactions and incompletions, with the standout refusal for determining water service toxicity in a housing project in East Harlem. Kismet works in amazing ways, especially for vile scummy people.

So now the residents of the projects have to deal with water they don’t want from the skies seeping from their apt. ceilings to the tainted water they need to drink, cook and bathe.

It ceases to amaze the outright stupidity and arrogance that continues unabated regarding NYCHA management, especially from the top. And especially in this maniacal age of real estate speculation. For even the technocrats at NYCHA want a seat at the table of the Gentrification Industrial Complex. Mr. Flores thoroughly reported last year how certain NYCHA buildings got repairs before contracts were awarded to a consortium of private developers and their shell organizations. Which adds tons of credence to the author’s theory that the gradual destruction of public housing and the displacement and disenfranchisement of poor people is definitely intentional. Which is immensely helped by the transparent duplicity of Mayor De Faustio and his continued boot licking to the real estate pogrom.

As for NYCHA, it may be the biggest scumlord of all. Each year there is the list for the 100 worst landlords, which for some reason, the same people are on the fucking chart year after year instead of being banished from owning and running buildings or serving a prison sentence. But NYCHA is a government service. It’s a service that should be taken for granted like social security or universal health care if it existed. It should be treated with the same reverence and care as a military base and even more than any embassy house. And it continues to betray the citizenry as if management feels they aren’t worthy of dignity or security because of what they are deemed to be worth.

This is not a cynical rant, it is a veritable fact. And this maltreatment is going to continue for another decade going by these egregious and incompetent official acts.

Comptroller Stringer should give his endorsement to Bill De Faustio a extremely long second thought.

A Tale Of Two Brooklyn Park Houses: One Getting Renovated, The Other One Going Away

DNAinfo: 107-Year-Old Prospect Park Tennis House to Get $5.1 Million Makeover

The long-shuttered Prospect Park Tennis House is getting a $5.1 million facelift to revamp the dilapidated architectural gem. “It’s a much loved building that needs a lot of work,” said Christian Zimmerman, the vice president of capital and landscape management at the Prospect Park Alliance. “We would like it to be open to the public again, so the idea is to do a complete renovation.”

Today, the building is used as an office for park landscape management workers, and although run down, still maintains its architectural charms, including a vaulted ceiling, a colonnaded pavilion, and mosaic tile.

Borough President Eric Adams also kicked in $1 million from his office to restore the green’s Parkside Avenue perimeter, including reconstructing the sidewalk, new lighting, street furniture and planting new trees.

A Walk In The Park: City Closes “House of Horrors” Park House In Brooklyn

Apparently this is the city’s definition of “equality,” in the park system.A dangerous and decrepit park house in a Brooklyn park was finally closed by the city over the weekend after park employees complained and a media inquiry was made about the deplorable conditions,  NYC Park Advocates has learned.

On Friday a dead rat greeted visitors at the entrance to the men’s room where users are forced to pass under a severely eroded ceiling on their way into in a putrid smelling bathroom room where an abundance of flies await  as well as broken windows. On the outside rotten wood and nest make up the crumbling facade.

The charred remains of a fire were evident throughout the building.  A burnt and partially melted fire EXIT sign hangs on the inside above the building’s entrance.

For years the city has been forcing its employees to work in  a rat invested, crumbling park house building in Bensonhurst Park located Cropsey Avenue and Bay Parkway.

Its uncertain how many codes, safety and health violations exist in the building but apparently no one from the parks department management thought it was a concern.

In the public “rec room,” rodent feces were everywhere. Two air conditioning units were mounted above window treatments stuffed with garbage.

The city’s initial response – the Park’s Department’s press office chastised a reporter for sending an inquiry at the end on a Friday.

The press office also represented that the section of the building where employees work out of was now was closed as multiple workers were seen entering the exiting the building.

“Its disgusting, It’s unbelievable,” said a park worker speaking on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution.

“It’s a house of horrors in there, It’s scary,” another worker said.

This is a interesting way of preserving parkland and green space in an era of hieghtened proactive environmental awareness, especially in a mostly progressive thinking and enlightened borough like Brooklyn. Especially since the borough, and in niche areas in the other boroughs, have seen the appearance of green spaces and plazas and rooftop gardens and farming.

So why the monetary concern and treatment and the abandonment of them for these two park houses? Yet again, it’s all about location. Prospect Park is surrounded by luxury towers completed and currently developed, overvalued speculative property rates and two way bike lanes, Bensonhurst Park is surrounded by Bensonhurst, a town that is populated with working class families and individuals that doesn’t seem to be on the real estate industry radar or even of interest of leisure and style sections of the elite newspapers and fashion magazines (and the citizenry there probably don’t give a shit not to be included in such focus features). Also apparently, not on the parks department or borough president Eric Adams radar either.

Bensonhurst Park is also not near any major subway stops. Or inundated with hipsters for now.

It’s not the least bit or even at all cynical why or where city tax dollars are going to the tennis house by Park Slope, second hometown of Mayor De Faustio, and the Bensonhurst Park house gets put to pasture after years of criminal neglect and turning into a rat litter box. To think that a facility meant for humans, the city and the park’s dept. let it devolve to an environment suitable for rodents. To think that park workers were subjected to do their job there and citizens had to use those toilets. Where is the supposed concern about the environment in southeast Brooklyn?

It’s a real insult to the citizens of Bensonhurst that visit the park and an massive insult to taxpayers in general to let a facility decay, and an utter colossal failure of the parks dept and city hall, the former doing absolutely nothing and blatantly ignoring the blight and the latter who can’t see beyond the giant towers and corporate sponsors hogging territory when they have events in public spaces and parks. So much effort goes into the promoting of parks to encourage the citizenry to enjoy these free spaces but all it is just shallow marketing. Especially now that the existence of parks has been reduced to jack up the market rental rate by the Gentrification Industrial Complex by describing them as another “amenity”.

Well, the powers that be of this city should be happy they have one less abomination to deal with. Why should they since they didn’t even spend a penny to equip Bensonhurst park with a shit shovel, cleaning supplies or even a broom.

This should be a signifying cause of alarm concerning any other parks under gradual dilapidation or ones under construction. Or even any program that’s suppose to better the lives of everyone in this unfair city.
